Welcome to the OSLRG - Southern California Referees

THE REFEREES OF THE OSLRG ARE CONSIDERED AMONG THE BEST IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA!

The OSLRG (Olympic Soccer League Referee Group)  has referees in its group that include among its members, top Southern California referees (top 1% to 10%), including a former FIFA Referee, a former Assistant FIFA Referee, current USSF National Referees and USSF State Level Referees, making it an organization of one of the higher level referees groups for Southern California.

There are many thousands of referees in Southern California and the best, similar to any profession, are in the top 20%.  We tend to only work with this top group.

THE OSLRG REFEREES WERE ASSIGNED TO OFFICATE THE INTERNATIONAL MATCH BETWEEN THE PANAMANIAN NATIONAL TEAM AND SANTA MONICA SPORTING FC (www.smsportingfc.com) ON JULY 4, 2013 AT NANSEN FIELD IN PALOS VERDES, CA.

The pregame photo of the team and referees show, from left to right, Assistant Referee Paul Spacey, fourth official Walter Zepeda, Referee Alex Gorin, Assistant Referee Meysam Foroughi.  Only top professional level referees could be assigned to such a game and the referees from the OSLRG continue to provide the best service on top games.

PANAMA VS SM SPORTING - Los Angeles, CA - July 4, 2013
The Panamanian National Team were preparing for their 2013 CONCACAF GOLD CUP MATCH against Mexico, scheduled for July 7, 2013.  As part of their preparation, PANAMA arranged for an international friendly match against one of the strongest amateur men's soccer teams in the United States, Santa Monica Sporting FC.  (
www.smsportingfc.com)  When the organizers needed top level referees to officiate the match, they knew to turn the OSLRG to fill their needs.

SOME TOP REFEREES OF THE OSLRG:
The referees in the OSLRG are generally considered among the higher end of the Referees in Southern California.  While the photo below highlights four referees of the OSLRG, it is not meant to take away credibility from the other fine referees in the OSLRG nor other top referees located in other organizations.  The photo below was taken at the Santa Monica Adult Soccer League Semi Final Matches in the summer of 2008.

WHO ARE THEY?
Mohamed Ibrahim, 2006 FIFA Referee from Egypt and Eun Jin Kim 2007 Assistant FIFA Referee from South Korea, are International Referees who have officiated International matches on the world stage.  Alex Gorin and Miguel Chicas are considered among the top referees in the United States, with both of them officiating at top national competitions, including the NCAA Division 1 Championship and Semi Final Matches at the College Cup in December 2007.  Miguel Chicas has also been assigned at the MLS Level and International matches.  Alex Gorin was a top referee in the USSR, officiating in their premier league, prior to coming to the United States.    Recently, Alex has been invited 5 of the last 6 years, to officiate in the NCAA Division 1 Final Four.  The one year he wasn't invited to officiate in the final four, he was invited to officiate in the quarter finals.  That means he is one of 6 referees each year, out of about 130,000 in the United States, given the prestigious honor.  In December 2010, Alex has now received this honor 5 of the last 6 years (unprecedented), and will be at the NCAA Division 1 Championship in Santa Barbara California.  These four officials are among the top 1% of referees currently officiating in amateur soccer in the United States.

OSLRG MEMBERSHIP PERSPECTIVES:
Utilize Top Level Referees:
In general, FIFA Referees are in the elite status, less than 1/10th of one percent of the referees make it to that level.  National Referees are considered in the top 1%.  State Level Referees  are generally considered to be in about the top 10% and the OSLRG membership is generally speaking, much more highly populated with these higher level referees than most any other referee association or group.

Who have been assigned to higher level games
Some of the referees of the OSLRG have been assigned at the MLS level in the past and have International match experience.

Others have been involved in the top NCAA Division I University Level games, including officiating in the Championship and Semi Final matches of the NCAA Division I College Cup over the last few years.

Then be selective with our membership:
We are also selective with the referees who are not yet at State Level, as we generally only accept the top end of those referees who are up and coming and/or competent for men's adult amateur competitions.   We assign each referee at appropriate levels of competitions/assignments.

Provide referee performances to meet the higher level demands:
In general, as a referee group, we strive to provide refereeing services that meet the needs of the more demanding teams, leagues and tournament directors.

With teams and leagues that notice and appreciate the difference:
It is our intent, that the better referees will perform at much higher levels and thus be recognized by the teams and leagues who see them, as noticeably and appreciably different than many others.

THE FOUR  C'S
Character, Courage, Conviction and Commitment
Are among some of the guiding principles that officials utilize when performing their best jobs as referees.
